When it comes to cocktailing, I’ve learned over the years to stick to the basics. More often, it’s a glass of something French and bubbly, or perhaps a Californian red or Marlborough white.
Despite my Canadian roots, beer is a usually a ‘no’ – unless I want to feel bloated. Same for slushy margaritas or pina coladas. Can you say calorie and sugar-bombs, not to mention hangovers of the worst kind?
But not everyone is like me– I get it. Especially friends and guests I’ll be hosting now that cottage season is in full swing. Hence why I recently did a little ‘gorgie homework’ to find a tasty, yet healthy cocktail. A girl can’t live on Dom alone.
Low and behold, I found my answer thanks to a favourite foodie and lifestyle blogger, Nutrition Stripped. Say hello to the Avocado-Margarita. It’s indeed the best I’ve tried, and one I’ll be sharing all summer long.
Taking just minutes to make plus a handful of ingredients, its silky smooth texture is divine, same for its clean, refreshing taste. Not only that, but it trumps other margaritas loaded with calories and high-glycemic sugars. With this one, you get a healthy source of fat, gut-friendly fiber and next to no sugar. Gorgie Amen!

So get out your blender, your best Tequila, some ripe avocados, lime, salt and natural sweeteners. For optimum taste, you’re best to serve this margarita straight-away, as opposed to storing in the fridge.
After you’ve blended all the ingredients, simply pour the mixture into any glass of your choosing. On my next go, I may try shooter-style for guests – before diving into a plate of chips and guac!
Now if only I didn’t run out of avocados as often.
