I know what you’re thinking.  Donuts? Gorgie, for real?  Yes, and yes again.  That’s because these dark chocolate donuts contain no gluten, dairy or sugar.

Not only that, they’re easy to make, and my girls devoured!

And if you keep a pantry like mine – the ingredients are easy to assemble and include the regular superstars such as coconut oil, cocoa and maple syrup.

If you don’t already own donut-shaped bakeware, I highly suggest investing in such, as you’ll use it again (stay tuned for another recipe I’m excited to share).

But in the meantime, if you want to ‘wow’ your family with a decadent treat (they’ll never guess ‘healthy’)– here’s the easiest, fool-proof way.  You can thank me later 😊.

From the Kitchen: Paleo Chocolate Donuts

Ingredients

For the donuts (serves 8):
• ¼ cup coconut flour
• ¼ cup cacao powder
• ¼ teaspoon celtic sea salt
• ¼ teaspoon baking soda
• 4 large eggs
• ½ cup coconut oil
• 3 tablespoons maple syrup
• Topping
• ½ cup chocolate chips
• 1 tablespoon palm shortening

For the topping:
• ½ cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet are best)
• 1 tablespoon palm shortening

Instructions

1. In a food processor, pulse together coconut flour, cacao powder, salt, and baking soda.
2. Pulse in eggs, coconut oil, and maple syrup until thoroughly combined.
3. Fill each well of the donut mold half way full of batter.
4. Bake at 350° for 15-18 minutes.
5. Remove doughnuts from pan and place on a cooling rack.
6. Use a pairing knife to cut hole in center of each doughnut.
7. In a saucepan, melt chocolate chips and shortening.
8. Drizzle doughnut with chocolate glaze.
9. Cool and serve!

Notes

To add some colour, top with sprinkles (such as vegan and gluten-free Sprinkelz brand).
